I woke up around 10 am at Elephant Backpackers hostel, feeling quite tired, so I decided to sleep in. By around 11 am, I finally got out of bed. My recollection of this day is somewhat hazy as nothing particularly noteworthy occurred (writing this report on April 9, 2014, and reviewing on November 7, 2021). After rising, I headed to King’s Cross, specifically to the Coles Supermarket, where I purchased some cokes for the hostel—my only addiction.

Relaxing at the Hostel

Upon my return to the Elephant Backpackers hostel, I kicked back on my bed, indulging in some laptop entertainment. Composing reports proved challenging within the hostel’s confines; my self-discipline was on the fritz, setting me a week off track with my travel blog writing. Balancing a laptop on a bunk bed was no easy feat, and the unsavory state of the kitchen deterred any attempts at productivity. The next morning, I seized the opportunity to capture snapshots of our scenic park view and the quirky room surroundings.

Tomorrow, my plan was to bid farewell to Sydney and venture into the enchanting Blue Mountains. Nine days Sydney was more than enough. Daniel would join me to the Blue Mountains, however, Daniel had a change of heart regarding his Blue Mountains itinerary, as a flurry of tasks demanded his attention. His departure was set for early Sunday morning, with a 4 am flight awaiting him. The impending journey prompted a flurry of activities for him—writing his blog, packing his bags, and snagging souvenirs for family and friends.

Observing his hustle made me contemplate my own return in three months. Despite the myriad wonders I’d encountered, a sense of yearning for home began to stir. The novelty of new places had worn off, and the initial ‘wow’ factor had dulled with familiarity. Perhaps, I mused, what I needed was a rejuvenating vacation or something of the sort.

Late Night Wandering

In the afternoon, I opted for some well-deserved relaxation, lounging around with nothing particular in mind. Meanwhile, Daniel engaged in a game of basketball and sorted out a few tasks. As 6 pm rolled around, I invited Daniel and Michele to accompany me to the car. My first stop was Coles, and after our shopping venture, we planned to stroll back to the car and return to the hostel. They agreed, and together we headed to Coles. A light drizzle accompanied us, but as the rain intensified, we found ourselves seeking shelter.

After a brief wait, we resumed our journey and eventually reached my car, driving back to the hostel. Unfortunately, all the parking spaces right in front were taken, forcing me to park 50 meters further down the road. Once parked, we made our way back to the Elephant Backpackers hostel and settled in for some relaxation. Daniel mentioned plans for a farewell party the next day, anticipating a lively gathering with Sharon, Jeong, Michele, Marius, and Asgeir, the two Norwegian guys.

Another Night

Daniel persuaded me to extend my stay for one more night, offering to share his reserved night. Eventually, his enthusiasm won me over, and I agreed, enticed by the prospect of a party, likely headed to the renowned Ivy club.

Returning to the car, we drove it to New Beach Road, the free parking street. Afterward, we strolled back to the hostel, and by 11:45 pm, I found myself urging Daniel to join me for another trip to Coles. My persistent craving for chocolate drove this decision. Once back at the hostel. I indulged in some relaxation, binge-watching series on my laptop until 2 am. Content with my choices, I was confident that tomorrow held the promise of a fantastic day.
