Day 192: Watching Football and another night out

Tonight, I planned to watch the Dutch football match at Tonic Times Square bar. I woke up around 11:30 am, got ready quickly with a shower, shave, and brushing my teeth. Afterward, I messaged Steve to tell him about my plans and invited him to join if he felt like it and had the time. The Tonic Times Square bar I found online was going to be packed with Dutch fans, so I knew I had to get there early. If I didn’t, they might send me to their sister bar, where I’d read they’d immediately send families with children…

Day 191: Fireworks at Brooklyn Bridge

Today, I planned to watch the Fourth of July fireworks near the Brooklyn Bridge. Rolling out of bed around 2 p.m., the aftermath of last night hit me—it had been wild, far beyond what I’d anticipated from the meeting. The first five minutes still stood out: the moment I nearly walked away but decided to stay. Fast forward to 6 a.m., and I was finally back at the hostel, exhausted but thrilled. A Well Deserved Bath With Drew gone, I had the entire dorm to myself for the day. Taking full advantage of the solitude, I filled the tub using…

Day 190: My first couch surf meeting

Stepping out of my comfort zone, I planned to attend my first couch surf event today. The day started late, around 11 a.m., as I woke up feeling tired and unmotivated to head into the city. The idea of visiting Rockefeller Center and its observation deck crossed my mind, but instead, I focused on writing. Progressing through my articles, I managed to upload content up to the Bahamas section—a small but satisfying achievement. Scrolling the internet, I felt a bit desperate to find some company. The hostel was nearly empty, and I really wanted to celebrate the 4th of July…

Day 189: Exploring New York’s Manhattan

Today was the day to explore Manhattan in New York. I woke up around noon, taking my time to ease into the day. The hostel surprised me with its cleanliness—kudos to the management. The bathroom was spotless and even had a bathtub. I indulged in a long, relaxing shower, appreciating how modern and well-maintained it was. Most hostels tend to have terrible showers, with broken heads that barely produce a trickle of water, but this one was a refreshing exception. Once I was ready, I left the hostel without having breakfast, planning to find a Subway restaurant somewhere in Manhattan…

Day 188: From Laos Singapore to New York

Today, I planned to spend most of my time exploring the neighborhoods of Queens in New York. I woke up around 7 a.m., right on time. After a refreshing shower, I brushed my teeth and styled my hair. While packing, I realized I had lost two t-shirts in the Bahamas. “Oh well, things happen,” I shrugged. On the bright side, I found my belt tucked away in my backpack. I thought it was gone for good, but thankfully, it wasn’t. Around 7:20 a.m., I checked out of the hostel and headed to a Subway shop three blocks away. I decided…

Day 184: The Everglades National Park

Today was an incredible adventure as I soared over the waters of Everglades National Park. It was a wild and unforgettable experience! I woke up around 10 a.m. thanks to a kid who barged into the dorm early in the morning, blasting his gangster R&B music while taking a shower. Naturally, the whole room woke up. Annoyed, I decided to give him a taste of karma. When he needed to access his locker, I took my sweet time at mine, pretending to rummage around just to make him wait. Karma really is a bitch. In the morning, I called a…

Day 183: A walk to South Beach

Today, I planned to keep it low-key with a brief visit and a leisurely stroll along Miami’s South Beach. I woke up around 4 p.m.—insane, I know. The disturbance was caused by a staff member showing a woman into the room. I didn’t recognize the staff member, but her voice sounded surprisingly masculine. My sleep schedule had been completely thrown off by my time in Las Vegas, where I’d mostly slept during the day and stayed awake at night, largely due to the heat. Now in Miami, I was in the Eastern Time Zone, which is three hours ahead of…

Day 182: I’m in Miami bitch!

Today was the day I’d be flying out to Miami. I woke up around 8 a.m. and got ready, as did Sean. He left in a hurry to catch his bus to L.A. I grabbed breakfast at the 7-Eleven and headed for the highway. By 8:40, I arrived at the car return site. The inspection was quick—the car was in perfect condition, and the fuel was topped off. I was good to go. Airport car rentals are so hassle-free; I loved the convenience. I hopped on the shuttle bus to the airport, which took about 7 minutes. By 9 a.m…

Day 178: Final gambling at the Strip

Today would be my final day gambling at the strip. I woke up around midnight after spending the entire night using my laptop in the dorm. It was blissfully empty since everyone else was out partying at the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC). Having the place to myself was quite enjoyable. I made good use of the room’s refrigerator, which was really convenient. After realizing someone had been drinking my Coke from the communal kitchen for the past two days, I decided to keep my drinks in the room to prevent any more thefts. Those coke thieves were absolute morons! After…

Day 177: Avoiding the heat and major gamble risks

Today marked my final day of gambling at the Fremont Street Experience. I woke up late, well into the afternoon. Given the scorching heat outside, I didn’t mind the late start. Venturing outdoors in such weather was simply unbearable. The only excursion I made while awake was to grab some food at seven eleven. The rest of the day was spent in contemplation and planning. I decided it was time to rent a car again. Having a vehicle would greatly streamline my itinerary, allowing me to arrange tours and visit national parks at my own pace. The decision weighed heavily…
